Critical Issues for Biped Mechanism in achieving Dynamically Stable Legged Locomotion
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper introduces an experimental small-sized biped mechanism that will be used to perform a dynamically stable smooth terrain walking. Some of the necessary criteria for biped locomotion are thoroughly explored. These criteria are actuator’s power, structural weight, leg-link design, and the computing hardware capability. All the criteria are taken into account during the course of constructing the biped mechanism. The resulting design is a 50 centimeters high biped mechanism that weighs about 2000 grams and possesses 14 degrees of freedom. The real-time computing hardware and the power source are off-board. The biped is compared with other selected prototype of the same class. The results are shown in the form of comparison metric and MATLAB dynamic simulation.

From Passive Dynamic Walking to Passive Turning of Biped walker
Dynamically stable biped robots mimicking human locomotion have received significant attention over the last few decades. Formerly, the existence of stable periodic gaits for straight walking of passive biped walkers was well known and investigated as the notion of passive dynamic walking. This study is aimed to elaborate this notion in the case of three dimensional (3D) walking and extend it f...
متن کاملAdaptation in Bipedal Locomotion Using Phase Oscillator Networks
Stable and robust dynamic locomotion has been gaining increasing attention to enhance the applicability of biped humanoids to dynamically changing environments. In this work, we propose an efficient neural oscillator network that controls the phase of the gait by incorporating sensory signals detecting the changes in terrain slope. This enables biped humanoids to reliably control periodic featu...

1. Motivation Legged robots will need to be fast, robust and efficient for real world applications. In this research, we aim to design a high speed bipedal running robot on 3D environments based on active tail stabilization method, Raptor 2 robot. 2. State of the Art Many legged robots have been studied and developed so far, but only a few robots have achieved stable fast legged locomotion. In ...
متن کاملAsymptotically stable walking for biped robots: analysis via systems with impulse effects
Biped robots form a subclass of legged or walking robots. The study of mechanical legged motion has been motivated by its potential use as a means of locomotion in rough terrain, as well as its potential benefits to prothesis development and testing. This paper concentrates on issues related to the automatic control of biped robots. More precisely, its primary goal is to contribute a means to p...
متن کاملVirtual Constraints Paradigm for Robotic Locomotion Control
Background. Designing highly mobile biologically inspired legged, winged, and limbless robots has advanced considerably in the past decade. Developing motion control algorithms for these robotic systems, however, is mainly carried out using ad-hoc techniques resulting in motions that are far less agile and efficient than the biological species that have inspired the robot morphology. A recent d...
